Exploring the beautiful valleys of Kashmir feels like a dream in itself. Snow-covered peaks, the serene waters of lakes, and the cool breeze—all of this fills the heart with peace and tranquility. Sanju and I, along with Mahi Madam, were enjoying the beautiful weather here.
On top of that, it was Diwali, which made the day even more special. We were wandering around Srinagar in Kashmir, enjoying the weather and visiting its famous spots, when suddenly Mahi Madam remembered Lal Chowk.

Lal Chowk has always been a vibrant hub, and with the festive spirit of Diwali, it felt even more alive. The bustling markets adorned with lights and decorations created a magical atmosphere. We decided to head there to soak in the celebrations. As we walked through the lanes filled with sweet shops and local artisans, the aroma of traditional snacks wafted through the air, tempting us to indulge in some treats.
It was amazing to see the locals celebrating with joy, sharing sweets and greetings. We even joined in as people lit diyas, creating a beautiful sight that mirrored the starry sky above. The warmth of the community and the festive cheer made us feel at home in a place so far away.
The memories we created on this Diwali in Lal Chowk were truly unforgettable, marking our trip to Kashmir as one of the most special experiences of our lives.

Every tourist visiting this area makes it a point to stop by Lal Chowk, so we also planned to visit in the evening. You might be wondering what makes Lal Chowk so special. As soon as I saw this place, my eyes widened in amazement—it was incredibly beautiful. Situated atop a hill, the views of the surrounding areas were mesmerizing. We had a lot of fun here and took many photos. As it was getting close to dusk, we left for Lal Chowk to reach on time and light the lamps.
It was still quite early in the evening, so before visiting Lal Chowk, we decided to visit Pari Mahal since it was on the way. After visiting Pari Mahal, we felt that if we hadn’t come here, we would have missed exploring a truly beautiful place. The name ‘Pari Mahal’ might make one think it was a grand palace of a queen, but that’s not the case. It used to be a hermitage and a center for learning astronomy.
Pari Mahal, situated on a hill overlooking Dal Lake in Srinagar, is a remarkable site known for its beauty and mystical aura. Built in the 17th century by Dara Shikoh, the son of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, Pari Mahal was originally established as a hermitage for a Sufi scholar.
It also served as a center for teaching astronomy. Here, lessons in celestial studies and spiritual education were imparted. While the valleys of Kashmir are breathtaking, the region’s history and architecture are equally captivating.

The name “Lal Chowk” is believed to have been inspired by Russia’s Red Square. Over the years, many significant political events, including the struggle for independence, have taken place here. Afterward, we took many photographs to capture the memories of this visit. Later, we returned to our hotel to rest, so we could embark on a new journey the following morning. The lights of a festival like Diwali illuminating Lal Chowk in Kashmir create a truly heartwarming effect. This time, when Mahi Madam and I lit our small diyas, it felt as if we were not just brightening the square, but also immortalizing the memories of our journey.
